The Chemeketans is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1928 united in a common interest in outdoor activities. The Chemeketans is a membership organization with about 700 members based in Salem, Oregon. Their primary activity is day hiking but includes many other outdoor activities and special events as well. They schedule cross-country ski trips, snowshoe outings, bicycle trips, canoe trips, backpacks, mountain climbs, picture nights, and other events such as museum trips and car camps.


Oregon State Fairgrounds

The Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem is unique among this state's event locations.  With 185 acres of venue excellence and  a range of facilities backed by a professional support services, the fairgrounds provide an enjoyable location for numberous events, including the state fair which is held annual in late August through early September..  With roots going back to 1861, this is one of the nation's classic state fairs. 


Polk County Fairgrounds

The Polk County Fairgrounds & Event Center is dedicated to the idea of providing the general public and the local community with the space, buildings and equipment needed to engage in events that promote fun, learning and social activity.

Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club

The Willamette Kayak and Canoe Club has a membership of nearly 300, and is based in the mid-Willamette Valley.


Santiam Flycasters

The Santiam Flycasters is a group of people in the Salem area with a common interest in fly fishing who join together to share their experiences and knowledge of the sport.


Willamette Wanderers

The Wanderers are proud to be celebrating their 30th anniversary as an organized walking club and a chapter of the American Volkssport Association (AVA) here in the Pacific Northwest.  As one of over 300 walking clubs, the Willamette Wanderers exist for the love of walking. They participate and plan walking events in and around Salem and Keizer, Oregon


Salem Audubon Society

The Salem Audubon Society is a chapter of the National Audubon Society with a mission is to connect people to Nature, through education focused on birds, other wildlife and their habitats, and conservation and restoration of natural ecosystems.  They promote the enjoyment of wildlife and the stewardship of the environment with birding field trips, nature walks,  monthly meetings and a variety of traveling educational programs.  They also involve volunteers in education, advocacy, conservation and restoration projects.


Salem Bicycle Club

The Salem Bicycle Club was formed in 1969 for the purpose of promoting recreational bicycle tours in the local area. Over the years, bicycle advocacy for improved biking conditions has been a priority as well. The club schedules weekly rides each weekend throughout the year. During the summer, the club also schedules week day evening rides and overnight rides. Ride distances range from 15 to 135 miles.


Salem Weekly (formerly Salem Monthly) is the only alternative newspaper publication in Salem. It traces its origins to a coffee house in Downtown Salem, Oregon known as the "Coffee House Cafe." Dating back to the mid-1990s, the Coffee House Cafe served as a popular meeting place and hangout for Salem's youth culture. In its later years of operation, the cafe began publishing a newsletter to engage customers in Salem's community and cultural affairs
